ABOUT LYNNE SCHUMACHER
Born in 1950, Lynne Schumacher started to paint in oils at age 6. She spent a great deal of time wandering the woods of her parent’s cottage in Haliburton, sketching and painting the scenery of the near north. She also spent summers in Nova Scotia where the rugged scenery drew her into an infatuation with water.
She was greatly influenced by the Group of Seven style but wanted to be more realistic in the work that she produced. This love of detail makes these paintings of nature come alive and help to convey mood in her work.
Although she studied commercial art at Central Technical School in Toronto, she decided that painting landscapes was a better fit for her personality. Many hours were studied in drawing at portrait and life drawing sessions to improve skills at expressing moods in her work.
Her journey has taken her from art shows like Toronto City Hall Art in the Park to McMichael to The Artist Project. Currently, her work can be seen at the Art Gallery of Ontario and various commercial galleries. Her work has been purchased for many corporate and private collections. She receives many awards for her very realistic nature paintings. The People’s Choice award is the one that is most satisfying as it is the public who pass judgment about the quality of the work and who eventually will purchase the pieces.
